Sweeney Todd directed by Rebecca Rouse, aimed to move away from the typical buckets of blood approach to the classic musical. Instead, the production looked to the core content of the piece and used interactive technology, projection, as well as classic dramaturgical tradition to tell the story of Sweeney Todd.
In addition to traditional theatrical design and musical rehearsal processes, an Xbox Kinect was developed to track actors in real time and create a facial projection map, transforming each of Sweeney’s victims into the Judge. Additionally, projection of Grand Guignol style horror film added in the substitution of blood for fear and horror.
